Benefit Concert to Celebrate Release of Second Album by Capital Region Singer-Songwriter Phil Teumim

Capital Region singer-songwriter Phil Teumim will celebrate the release of his second CD, Far and Wide, with a benefit concert at B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation.

            The concert will take place Saturday, October 3, at 7 p.m. at B’nai Sholom, 420 Whitehall Road, Albany, New York. Teumim will perform tracks from Far and Wide along with some favorites from All Over the Map, his first CD released in 2011, and will debut some new material. Several guest musicians from the Capital Region will join Teumim on stage.

ABOUT FAR AND WIDE

Teumim’s sophomore album includes 13 original songs reflecting the diverse influences and styling befitting the CD’s title. Far and Wide explores, among other things, national parks, seniors in love, side effects of medications, the lighter side of flying, a bit of political commentary and many other topics. Teumim recorded the CD at Mark Dann Recording in Woodstock, New York, with the aid of a number of his musical colleagues on background vocals, electric and slide guitar, bass, harmonica, flute and hand percussion.

ABOUT PHIL TEUMIM

            A resident of the Capital District since his college days, Teumim is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, banjo, ukulele and a variety of hand percussion. He draws his songs from personal experiences, family stories, social commentary and world affairs, ranging from serious to sentimental and sarcastic to silly, from world peace to seasickness. Teumim’s musical stylings are influenced by “everything I ever heard” and include folk, rock, blues, Celtic and other genres. In performance, Teumim accompanies himself on six- and 12-string guitar, banjo and ukulele, though not necessarily all at the same time.

Teumim is president of Old Songs Inc., a Capital District not-for-profit organization dedicated to “keeping traditional music and dance alive through the presentation of festivals, concerts, dances and educational programs.” He also is president of SummerSongs Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of songwriting, and has been a fixture at the SummerSongs and WinterSongs songwriting camps at the Ashokan Center in the Catskills from their inception in 1999. Teumim lives in Delmar with his wife Marty and a bunch of cats.
