B’nai Sholom to Screen “The Mad Adventures of ‘Rabbi’ Jacob,” Iconic French Comedy of Frantic Disguises and Mistaken Identities

B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation in Albany presents a screening of “The Mad Adventures of ‘Rabbi’ Jacob,” a hilarious French comedy of frantic disguises and mistaken identities, Saturday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m.

B’nai Sholom is located at 420 Whitehall Road, Albany, New York.  Refreshments available.  Suggested contribution: $5.

This iconic French comedy and Golden Globe nominee is a riot of slapstick shenanigans.  Directed and written by Gérard Oury, the film stars Louis de Funès as a bigoted businessman who, through a bizarre combination of events in order to evade the police, is forced to impersonate Rabbi Jacob, a beloved figure returning to France after 30 years in the United States.  A hodgepodge of plot twists culminates in a chaotic, fun climax. The results make for a masterwork in this genre and a cult classic, a film that The New York Times hailed as “so funny so much of the time.”

Released in 1973, the 100-minute film is rated G.  In French, English, Hebrew, Yiddish and Arabic with English subtitles.
