B’nai Sholom Welcomes Community to “Meet the New Rabbi” at Open House

Come one, come all to meet Rabbi Danielle Weisbrot, B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation’s new rabbi, at an open house Sunday, Oct. 17, 3-5 p.m. outdoors at the synagogue, 420 Whitehall Road, Albany. 

A bounce house, games and crafts, winter clothing drive, refreshments and a special program to introduce Rabbi Weisbrot guarantee a fun time for all ages.

At the open house, prospective members can learn about ritual and cultural life at B’nai Sholom, religious education from Ruth Malka, director of the B’Yachad communal religious school, and B’nai Sholom’s many opportunities to become involved in the temple community.

Of particular interest to young couples and families is B’nai Sholom’s dues plan with greatly reduced dues for new congregants and those ages 35 and under and graduated dues for ages 36-40.

In addition, B’nai Sholom’s Social Action/Social Justice Committee will collect clean, gently used winter clothes and shoes for donation to those in need throughout the Capital Region.  Plan to stop by, drop off some used clothing, have a nosh and meet some new friends.

B’nai Sholom welcomed Rabbi Weisbrot as the congregation’s new spiritual leader July 1, 2021. A graduate of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) in New York, Rabbi Weisbrot was ordained in May 2021.  She is particularly focused on social justice issues.  Throughout her time at HUC-JIR, she volunteered in the student-run soup kitchen on the campus, rising to the position of head chef, a labor of love for her.  Prior to rabbinical school, Rabbi Weisbrot worked at an educational nonprofit in New York.

 Founded in 1971, B’nai Sholom Reform Congregation is a home for contemporary Reform Judaism in the Capital Region, creating a vibrant Jewish present that links ancient traditions with the promise of the future.  Nearly 130 diverse households from six counties seek religious, educational and social fulfillment at B’nai Sholom.
