More than 20 years ago, during the NCAA Men’s Final Four Basketball Tournament, a small group of Jewish basketball coaches gathered, driven by a shared desire for connection and community. Their vision laid the foundation for the Jewish Coaches Association, established in 2004. Since then, the JCA has become a prominent network, focused on supporting the growth and development of Jewish individuals in sports across all levels, both nationally and internationally, with more than 800 members including the four Jewish coaches whose teams made it to the men’s and women’s Final Four tournaments in 2025.
Matt Elkin, an assistant basketball coach at Columbia University, is executive director of the JCA. He previously served as head of basketball operations at Yale University and as an assistant coach with Team USA’s Under-18 squad that won gold at the 2022 Maccabiah Games.
