Please join us for a talk with Mimica Tzezana Hyman, chronicling the survival of the Jewish community on the Greek island of Zakynthos, where Mimica’s father and family lived, during World War II.

The entire Jewish community on the island was protected from the Nazis by the bishop, the mayor, and other residents. As a result, all 275 Jewish lives on Zakynthos were saved.

Mimica’s presentation of this amazing story of courage consists of a summary of Jewish life on Zakynthos in the days before WWII, stories of her father and a screening of a short documentary.

A resident of the Hudson Valley, Mimica is an artist, educator and advocate who shares her family's historic experience during the Holocaust to keep the memory of Greek Jewish survival alive. She also serves on the board of the American Friends of the Jewish Museum of Greece.
